Board of directors and support staff
Jeanne Schwarz —————
Jeanne, an RN, has lived in La Veta for 4 years. Jeanne is Program Development Consultant for LVVI, guiding our senior care services planning, funding strategy, and community outreach activities. Jeanne offers LVVI her wealth of experience and success in senior care and non-profit assisted living community operations. From 1989 until 2002, Jeanne, along with two fellow nurse friends, her family, and many community supporters, formed a non-profit, and developed and operated three mid-sized assisted living homes in Douglas County. Lovely La Veta beckoned as retirement, following 10 years of a caregiving journey with husband Ted, as he courageously endured the ravages of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Passion called, however, and Jeanne is once again, guiding her adopted, supportive community toward providing housing and care for its growing elder population.
John Galusha—————— Co-chairman/Director
John recently joined LVVI to further the development and support of the Huerfano County businesses and individuals to assist in financing and new directions. John will be a great friend and asset on La Veta Village Board to assure the completion of the Assisted Living Residence.
John also is currently serving as the Huerfano County Administrator with overall responsibility and authority for the business and service delivery aspects of Huerfano County government. In matters of governance and public policy, the position oversees the implementation and administration of board-established policies and helps maintain good working relationships between the board’s office and other elected officials.
John, as County Administrator assists the board in developing and managing public policy matters and issues such as budget, land use, natural resources, transportation, environmental protection, social services, park development, county facilities and the subsidiary functions within each of those broad areas.
Dorothy Caddell —————Co-chairman/Director
Dorothy has always had a love for the elders and children. Earlier in her life she was privileged to help complete many projects by raising money and bonds for a city park and a high school, just to name a few. Recently she has been blessed to be able to work with Veterans in the 11th hour program provided by Walsenburg Hospice Services.
Now she feels that job and talent should be to help La Veta Village accomplish the financial needs to start and complete construction of the La Veta Village-Senior Living Residence. The need is so great for our Seniors in Huerfano County and what a blessing this will be to provide a safe and completely comfortable home with all the amenities they will need to ‘age in place’. Seniors need to feel love and worthwhile and my goal is to make a difference in the lives we touch.
Carl Klinke ——————Vice Chairman/Director
Carl is a retired Real Estate Attorney. He assists LVVI in evaluating property acquisitions, associated contracts and leases. He will guide LVVI to make responsible decisions regarding contracts, and policies. He will also assist with funding applications and government requirements as we go forward. Carl and his wife, Nancy have lived in La Veta for 8 years. He and Nancy also maintain a winter season home in Irving, Texas.
Edna Schmidt —————Treasurer/Director
Edna manages LVVI Business Office bill payments and receivables and is an active contributor to our volunteer and fundraising activities. Edna has lived in La Veta for 59 years. During those years, she was involved in establishing the excellently rated, La Veta Public Library, and served on various community boards. She also assisted in procuring a van to deliver Meals on Wheels in and around the community. She cashiered at San Isabel Electric in La Veta for 23 years. Many of her family members are involved in health care, and so it seemed natural that she would help LVVI to provide a caring home for La Veta elders.
