Food Boxes

Food Programs

Since April 2020, La Veta Village has provided two food programs for older adults and families in need in the La Veta area. We provide grocery shopping and delivery for older or homebound adults. Since inception we’ve made over 500 deliveries to over 30 households.

In coordination with the Area Agency on Aging we’ve provided free food boxes to households in need in the La Veta, Cuchara, and Navajo Ranch areas of Huerfano County. Every month we provide free food box pick-up, serving 145 households, and over 300 individuals. Since inception we’ve provided the equivalent of more than 80,000 meals to our neighbors.

As of March 2023, we are proud to announce an additional program in partnership with Care and Share, the Mobile Market. The Mobile Market provides no-cost groceries to anyone in need in the community.

Community support makes this possible – both the generous support of individuals and foundations, and over 70 volunteers to date.

If you are interested in helping with our free food program –packing boxes of food or supporting pick-up let us know. We plan to continue this program as funding allows.

If you are in need of one of our food programs, or would like to volunteer, please call our Food Services team at 719-247-1393 or email foodservices@lavetavillage.org.  See the La Veta Public Library Community Calendar or the weekly Bachman Newsletter for updates regarding the timing and location for our free food pick-up program.

We are grateful to organizations and businesses that collaborated with us to make our Food Programs possible for the community. They include the Area Agency on Aging (SCCOG), Care and Share Food Bank, Cuchara Valley Christian Community Services (CVCCS), Charlies’ Market, La Veta Fire and EMS, XIT Ranch, Town of La Veta, Chaé Organics,  and Code of the West.

Volunteer

La Veta Village is a 501c(3) non-profit assisted living community.

Our programs depend on the generosity and capabilities of our volunteers.

Many volunteers have supported the start-up of our assisted living community, from garage sale volunteers, to program committee staff. Now that we are open, we continue to seek volunteers for activities for residents including areas such as arts and crafts, music, gardening, and computer and technology support. We welcome your ideas and interest.

If you are interested in volunteering please call our office at 719-742-3510, or send us an email describing your interest at office@lavetavillage.org

Donate

As a non-profit, we rely on the generosity of your donations to achieve our mission of helping aging adults live healthy and active lives.

We spare no effort to make the needs of our residents our top priority. Ensuring that they have a good quality of life and a level of assistance appropriate for each individual is more financially challenging than ever in today's economy.

Grants and government funding do provide some operating expenses, but not enough to guarantee that we can sustain the programs and services so essential to our mission. Your tax-deductible contribution to La Veta Village will help us continue to offer the seniors in our village the security and assistance they so richly deserve at this stage in their lives. A one-time donation or a monthly donation would be welcome.
