Caring for the La Veta Village and the Community

Updated: Jan 12

La Veta Village Auxiliary was the aspiration of Sarah Hoffman, Edna Schmidt, and Dorothy Caddell. It was established in March of 2021 with thirteen members after receiving Non Profit Status, and Colorado State Tax Exemption from the Department of Treasury.

La Veta Village Auxiliary Members provide hands-on volunteer work on the site, but the primary purpose is to raise money. The Auxiliary is self-incorporated, and we present ourselves to the community using the good name of the institution. Our actions and image are beneficial to promote fundraising to assist the residents of the Village Home.

Our La Veta Village Auxiliary has no membership fees. We have active members and occasional members. We welcome members from La Veta, Cuchara, Navajo, Walsenburg, and beyond, and support the only assisted living facility in Huerfano County. Endeavors to assist the residents are highly rewarding for us.

Meetings are held at 1:pm on the second Wednesday of each month, lasting one hour or less. Refreshments are provided by one of our members, and we enjoy social time afterward.

We welcome new members!

The many volunteer activities we engage in are monthly Resident Bingo ( open to the public ), Reminisce Group, assisting in the kitchen, arranging for entertainment, signing up for resident needs such as mending, interacting with local businesses to support the residents such as the Book Nook, the Resident Garden, Charlie's Store, and the La Veta Library.

Money-making projects we have done are bake sales, yard sales an annual fish fry, a dance, and silent auctions. Information tables are set up to promote La Veta Village Assisted Living at various La Veta community events such as Art in the Park, 4th of July, etc.

Come and join our group!
